Fume and Smoke Collection at Fort Dix

The new welding school on the Fort Dix Army base in New Jersey was in need of smoke/fume collection equipment.

The Army Major who was in charge of the project had stringent criteria surrounding its design, fabrication, and installation. The system would service 12 welding stations and had to be completed before a visit from a Three-Star General just four weeks later.

Combination down draft tables and source capture arms were proposed. There would be complete workstations without the need for external dividing walls.

All the components had to be shipped quickly, to arrive in time for installation. This wasn’t a problem, since MicroAir would provide all components from one manufacturing point so their mechanical contracting division wouldn’t be held up in any way.

The Army purchased two RP6-2 12-cartridge dust collection units, 12 DDT7230 down draft tables, 12 eight-foot source capture arms, and two TM1000 portable dust collectors.

The visiting Three-Star General was so impressed that he called the system the most advanced he had ever seen on a military base.
